Customs seize smuggled goods worth over N40m

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the seizure of smuggled goods worth N40.530 million in Duty Paid Valu (DPV).

This as disclosed by Comptroller Al-Bashir Hamisu at the Federal Operations Unit (Zone B) headquarters along the Kaduna-Zaria highway on Wednesday.

He said, “The duty paid value of these items is N40,526,273 million. My message to these smugglers is that we are not going to rest and we will make sure that we follow them into their bedroom just to stop them from bringing in rice and other banned goods into this country.”

Speaking, Hamisu detailed that some seized good are 484 parcels of Indian hemp, 373 bags of foreign rice, vegetable oil of 45kg capacity and 48 bales of second-hand clothes.

He also promised that the customs will continue to man the borders against smugglers.

The comptroller handed over the 484 parcels of seized Indian hemp to the Kaduna State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Uche Iyke.
