At least, six people have been killed on Tuesday as bandits struck along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Highway.

The identified victims include a commercial driver, Auwal Ibrahim and four vigilantes in Randagi village in a western part of the town.

NewsWireNGR gathered that the driver was commuting between Birnin Gwari and Kaduna when the bandits attacked and killed him on Tuesday evening.

The armed bandits had earlier attacked Randagi village in Western Birnin Gwari at midday. They burgled shops and killed four vigilantes and a baby.

Confirming the attack in Birnin Gwari, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan released a statement on Tuesday.

He said, “The military under the auspices of Operation Safe Haven reported an attack by bandits at Warsa Piti, in Mariri District of Lere Local Government Area.

“Quoting an eyewitness, the military stated that the attackers numbering about six, masked and dressed in black, invaded the community late on Monday and began shooting indiscriminately.

“Troops on receiving a distress call mobilised to the location and engaged the assailants who then fled into the forest. However, two citizens had already been killed, identified as Sale Muhammad and Aguno Bawuro.

“Similarly, the government received reports of an attack on Randagi village in Birnin Gwari LGA. One Dantani Maifaskari was killed and some others injured by bandits, who also looted shops.

“In a separate incident, the military also reported that unidentified youths attacked a herders’ settlement in Kurmin Bi village of Zangon Kataf LGA.

“According to the report, the attack was an apparent reprisal to the earlier attack on Wawan Rafi.

“The herders in the settlement escaped but six cows were killed by the attackers, with four others injured. A house was also burnt down within the settlement.”

He said Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed concern over the renewed.

“Investigations into the incidents are in progress, as troops intensify patrols in the general areas,” he added.
