Kano State House of Assembly has approved Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s request to access N20 billion loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and United Bank for Africa (UBA).
The assembly approved the request during plenary on Monday after a series of deliberations.
Speaking to journalists on the facility, the majority leader of the assembly, Kabiru Hassan Dashi said the loan was to cover up for the economic breakdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, the assembly considered the governor’s request after the government’s inability to access the loan from the capital market due to worsening economic conditions.
NewsWireNGR recalls that in October, Governor Ganduje had presented the total sum of N147,935,302,948 to the Kano State House of Assembly as the 2021 budget, which he tagged “Budget for Economic Recovery and Sustainable Development,”.
The focus of the budget according to the governor will be the integration of Almajiri System of Education, Security, Food Security, Fight against corruption, health, empowerment programmes, Skills Acquisition and Public Private Partnership, among others.
