Boko Haram insurgents currently attacking Dapchi, Yobe State, set palace ablaze

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents are currently attacking Dapchi, the headquarters of Bursari Local government in Yobe state.

The attackers set fire on the palace of Dapchi District head a source tells DailyTrust Newspaper.

He added that the insurgents forced many shops opened and carted away food and other items.

A resident who spoke via telephone said the insurgents stormed the town around 6:00pm while residents-majority Muslim faithfuls were preparing to break their Ramadan fast. “The insurgents shot sporadically but the shooting later subsided,” he said.

“But as I speak to you now heavy gunshots were heard from all angles of the town which I believe to be an encounter between the insurgents and the troops.

He said casualties could not be ascertained because the attack is ongoing. On February 19, 2018, one hundred and ten schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi.

All the girls were released in March 2018 except the lone Christian girl Leah Sharibu.
