Ayobami Idris Adekojo, the son of serving Oyo State Head of Service Alhaja Ololade Agboola has been implicated in an apparent ghost jobs racketeering scheme within the state civil service. Following a heated Twitter exchange between Adekojo (@dondekojo) and one Adesola Sulaiman (@Advsola) on Friday May 8, 2020, Sulaiman claimed that they had earlier discussed an agreement to get him a ghost job within the Oyo State civil service.
Following the accusation, Adekojo, a Communications Consultant who worked on the 2019 Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, took to his handle where he penned a lengthy explanation. In it, he denied that he ever had any intention of setting up Sulaiman with a ghost position within the civil service structure headed by his mother. He claimed that while the purported exchange did take place, he in fact merely “egged on” Sulaiman for a reason that as yet remains unspecified.
Shortly thereafter, a series of screenshots of the purported conversation began circulating, corroborating Sulaiman’s claims, and also indicating that the alleged illegal trafficking of nonexistent but paid positions by Adekoja had in fact happened before.
The exchange will doubtless come as an unwelcome embarrassment for Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, who will have to divert attention from the fight against COVID-19 and decide whether to review Alhaja Agboola’s position in the light of the apparent conflict of interest or hope for the situation to blow over.
