Katsina State Government has announced the lockdown of Ingawa Local Government Area with effect from Sunday, May 10.

The government said the directive followed the announcement by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control that some persons in the area tested positive for COVID-19.

Secretary to the State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, said in a statement that Governor Aminu Masari ordered the directive.

The statement enjoined residents of the area to comply with the lockdown, adding that security operatives have been directed to also enforce compliance.

It insisted that the lockdown was in the best interest of the residents of the area, the state, and Nigeria, in general.

With the development, 13 of the 34 LGAs in the state are now under lockdown as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The LGAs are Ingawa, Rimi, Malumfashi, Katsina, Daura, Batagarawa, Dutsinma, Mani, Jibia, Safana, Matazu, Kankiya, and Musawa.

According to the NCDC on Friday night, the state has recorded 137 COVID-19 cases, including eight deaths and nine recoveries.
