NewsWireNGRThree health workers including two Doctors and one Nurse were reportedly held Hostage yesterday by COVID-19 patients at Kwanar Dawakin isolation center in Kano.
Former Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Kano, Prof. Aminu Mohammed confirmed this on WazobiaFM Kano.
He said the medical experts were on ward round when the incident occurred.
Prof. MUHAMMED explained that the fully kitted workers with personal protective equipment were locked together with a Covid-19 patient for about four hours. He added that they were almost suffocating before they broke the door and forced their way out of the ward.
When contacted, one of the patients at the isolation center confirmed the protest, linking their action to the delayed testing and confirmation of their status within the stipulated 7 days of being on drugs.
He clarified that the affected workers did not break the door though, said one of the patients who held the key eventually released it following the intervention of the leader of the health workers at the center. When contacted, the Coordinator of the State Task Force on COVID 19, Dr Tijjani Hussain said he was not aware of the development, promising to find out and revert as soon as possible.
