COVID-19: Arik Air Staff To Take 80% Pay Cut

Nigerian aviation company Arik Air has concluded plans to slash its workers’ salaries for the month of April by 80% as COVID-19 continues to paralyze aviation activities across the world.

Sent as an email, the memo stated that after careful deliberation and analyses, the management had decided to implement an 80% pay cut for all members of staff across the entire organization for the month of April 2020.

The memo that announced the drastic change on Friday, April 24, 2020, also stated that 90% of Arik staff are to commence compulsory leave without pay effective 1st May 2020. However, this excludes staff involved in the lean Charter Operation.

The company also said that the new situation shall be reviewed monthly based on the resolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and the scope of the airlines operations.

However, during the period of compulsory leave without pay, the staff health insurance scheme (HMO) will continue to run to enable them to access health care.
