Breaking: About 40 Nigerian health workers have tested positive for coronavirus

The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, says about 40 health workers have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

Dr Ehanire disclosed this on Thursday during the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He, therefore, appealed to medical workers in the frontline of the COVID-19 fight to always protect themselves while giving treatment to infected patients.

According to the Minister of Health: “We’re doing what we call ‘Smart testing’ in Nigeria: Testing where we think we’ll get the yield”.

The Minister added that Nigeria is now targeting testing at places where there have been clusters of infections.

“We’re now targeting our testing at places where there have been clusters of infection. Every country has its approach. It’s not a competition. #PTFCOVID19“.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had Wednesday confirmed 91 new cases of COVID-19 in eight states and the federal capital territory.

A breakdown of the cases showed that 74 were recorded in Lagos, five in Katsina, four in Ogun, two each in Delta and Edo, and one each in Kwara, Oyo, FCT and Adamawa.

Also three more deaths had occurred, raising the fatalities to 28, while those discharged remained at 197.
