Nigerians Returning From High Risk Countries Refusing To Self Isolate Are Our Biggest Risk – Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu

More cases of corona virus will be reported and Nigerians should brace themselves. The director of the Nigeria Center For Disease Control , Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, said this while answering questions on the live Television program (sunrise daily) today.

The director noted that NCDC has moved from daily briefings to real time release of information to ensure Nigerians are adequately informed.

According to the Director General, the primary containment strategy is to identify all cases and follow up on all their contacts. workforce has to scale up because the cases are rapidly spreading.

Following up contacts have been difficult. the contacts are followed up by phone calls

According to the director, the country’s biggest source of risk is Nigerians returning from high risk countries and refusing to self isolate. He further stressed that Nigerians coming back home should do the responsible thing and stay home.

Answering questions about the NCDC hotlines, the director said capacity has been scaled to accommodate the thousands of calls coming in on a daily basis. He said private sector companies are working with the NCDC to improve the quality of the responses on the hotline.

Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu adviced private company owners to allow non essential staff to work from home and encouraged nigerians to take personal responsibility by observing social distancing and quick reporting of suspected cases.
