Makurdi Flood: Finally, Osinbajo, Not Buhari, Visits Victims

The Federal Government has finally visited the victims of the Sept. 1 flood in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

After calls by Nigerians to have government visit the state, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo visited today.

The flood started on Sept. 1, lasting for five days before beginning to ebb, after over 100,000 persons have been displaced, and property including farm produce lost.

Although President Muhammadu Buhari issued a statement on the flood, there has been a backlash from Nigerians over government’s reluctance to visit the scene.

Osinbajo visited Makurdi and had a meeting with the state Governor, Samuel Ortom and other senior government officials Tuesday afternoon.

At the time of this report, the VP had not exited the meeting and addressed the press.
