Female Suicide Bomber Kills Nigerian Soldiers In Borno

Two soldiers have been killed in a suicide attack at a military checkpoint in Konduga, Borno State, the police said on Thursday.

The female suicide bomber, according to a statement by the spokesman of the police in Borno state, Victor Isuku, detonated the explosive strapped on her at a military checkpoint just in front of an Internally Displaced Persons camp.

Isuku said that the information received from Police in Konduga has it that on Wednesday, 17/5/17, at about 7:30 pm, a female suicide bomber detonated explosive strapped to her body at Mashimari by military checkpoint behind internally displaced persons camp at Konduga.

The police spokesman said the woman was lost in the attack which claimed two soldiers.

He said the scene of the crime was visited by team of EOD of the police.

Isuku said normalcy has been restored even as the situation continued to be monitored.

Meanwhile, the new Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ibrahim Yusuf has formally taken over command of the Division in Maiduguri Borno State.

Brigadier General Yusuf took over from his predecessor Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu who is on posting to Depot Nigerian Army as Commandant.

In a brief ceremony at the Headquarters of the Division, the new GOC was presented with the Division flag by his predecessor after signing the handing and taking over notes during the ceremony at the Headquarters of the Division in Maimalari Barracks Maiduguri, Borno State.
The highlight of the occasion was the inspection of Quarter Guard where old flag was lowered and new one hosted which signified the end and beginning of a new command.

General Yusuf hails from Yobe State, he is the 7th GOC of the Division since its formation in 2013. He is a member of 37 regular course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and also an alumni of the National Defence College in Abuja.

Until his recent appointment, he was the Registrar of NDA.
