Buhari And First Lady, Aisha Absent As Second Daughter Marries 57 Year-Old, Yau Gimba As 4th Wife [Photos]

The ancient city of Daura in Katsina state, witnessed tight security on Friday, October 28, 2016 as President Muhammadu Buhari’s second daughter, Fatima Buhari, weds.

Fatima is Buhari’s daughter with his first wife, the late Safinatu Muhammadu Buhari. She got married to Malam Gimba Yau Kumo, a former managing director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

The president divorced her mother in the 80s soon after he was released from incarceration following the coup that toppled his first dictatorship. Fatima joins the Gimba family as the 4th wife.

The president was conspicuously absent at the wedding ceremony. According to reports, he was sighted at the Juma’t service at the Presidential Villa on Friday leading to speculations that he had no plans of attending the ceremony.

Aisha Buhari, the wife of the president, was also missing from the published photos from the ceremony.

Fatima’s wedding did not go without a pre-ceremony controversy though. In a moment of pettiness and insecurity, a senior wife decided to take to Instagram to “dish out some shade”, comparing herself with the president’s daughter, ostentatiously trying to put down the new bribe.

Nigerian News Agency had reported a heavy deployment of security personnel in and around the residence of the president on Mai’adua road in Daura town.

Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was stationed at the junction linking to the residence of the president.

The venue of the wedding, Low Cost Jumu’at Mosque, also witnessed heavy presence of joint security personnel, who surrounded it.

NAN however report that worshipers, who trooped to mosque, had unhindered access to observe their religious obligation.

While that was going on, security personnel were seen patrolling the town to guard against any eventuality.

Super markets, shops, soft drink sellers and commercial motorcyclists were recording a boom in their businesses as visitors and well wishers from across the country were sighted purchasing various traditional wares.

The soft drink and bottled water sellers are receiving high patronage due the scorching heat in the ancient city.

NAN observed that there was high vehicular traffic as various brands of assorted cars and jeeps belonging to invitees flooded the town.

Several of the invitees drove straight to the Emir of Daura’s palace, Alhaji Umar Farouq, to pay homage before proceeding to the venue of the wedding.

The residents of Daura were also seen in high spirit, receiving and entertaining visitors as well as directing them to various places in appreciation of their presence for the high profile wedding.
