The Save Lagos Group has called on Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to stop the ongoing propaganda campaigns on recently completed road project works in the state, saying the roads have fallen short of the expectations of the people of the state.

In a statement issued by the Convener of the group, Comrade Adeniyi A Sulaiman and the Director, Media and Strategy, Comrade Olaolu Oladipo, the Save Lagos Group described the projects as mere cosmetic façade aimed at deceiving the people of the state.

This is coming just as the Save Lagos Group has flayed moves by the state government to clear the state of shanties and slums, saying the moves were not done with good motive but done to punish some segments of the state opposed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government in the state.

Appraising the fanfare that greeted the commissioning of some 114 local roads in the state recently, the Save Lagos Group in the statement issued on Thursday said the quality of works done on many of the projects left so much to be desired.

“We are sad to note that despite the euphoria and media bliss that trailed the so called commissioning of these projects, many of the roads were poorly done and have started to look like what they looked like before the works carried out on them.

“What is of significance is the misplacement of priority in the selection of the roads that were selected for the projects. Our grouse is that the roads have little or no significance for facilitating the economic growth and development of the state.” The statement reads in part.

On the decision of the state government to rid the state of shanties, the group faulted the APC-led government for carrying out the action, saying the government should apologise to the victims of the exercise for misleading the public as evidence are bound to suggest that many of the affected people have valid titles to their properties.

“We of the Save Lagos Group are surprised by the rationale provided by the state government to engage in this punitive exercise against innocent and law abiding citizens of the state. Our findings have revealed that many of the victims of this exercise are being made scapegoats for government’s ineptitude.

“So, the only thing acceptable to us is for the state government to desist from further inflicting harsh punishment on the people of the state through this dubious exercise and to further apologise to past victims.”
