Elder statesman and Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Alhaji Yusuf Maitaima Sule (Dan Masanin Kano), has said the present fuel scarcity and economic hardships experienced in the country have been inherited but that with patience and co-operation by Nigerians, things will get better soon.

Speaking to newsmen, Sunday night in Abuja, Alhaji Sule said those that were blaming President Muhammadu Buhari for the current fuel scarcity and hardship are not fair to him or the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, because the administration is yet to complete a year in office.

“Let us be honest to ourselves, is the current administration responsible for the woos and ills we are suffering at the moment? They inherited them, this administration has been there for about only one year. And one good thing is that it is doing something to address the problems it met on ground,” he said.

Alhaji Sule said the problem in the oil sector coudn’t be overcome overnight due to the technical nature of the sector, adding that instead of pouring blames, politicians and other well-meaning Nigerians should join hands and help address the problems.

He said it would take time and pain to resolve the chronic wound that Nigeria had suffered for a long period of time, and therefore called on all fellow countrymen to pray for success for the country’s leadership.

“It is like having a chronic wound and you want it to heal, to wash it, is painful; scrap it, is equality painful; applying medicine is painful also, but unless you experience those pains, the wound will not heal.

We are experiencing some pains no doubt but after these pains there will be ease. So with patience and prayers, there will be light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

“I was told that the government is meeting with the major oil marketers and independent oil marketers in order to look for a lasting solution at the downstream oil sector. I am glad that this is happening and if it’s not, I urge the government to do so.”

“I was also informed that fuel has arrived Lagos and it will soon be distributed to all parts of the country,” I hope that will be sustained, he urged.
