Tribunal Confirmed I Am The Governor Of Akwa Ibom – Says Emmanuel Udom

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Thursday reacted to the judgment of the Akwa Ibom stet governorship election tribunal.

According to Governor Emmanuel Udom, the judgment is an indication that contrary to the allegation of the petitioner and his party, elections did hold in the state and he remains the governor having been voted by the people of Akwa Ibom State.

He re-echoed the position of his legal team on the possibility of testing the judgment in the appellate court and urged the people of Akwa Ibom State to be calm and law abiding in the face of the judgment

The Akwa Ibom Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja had ordered a re-run in 18 local government areas of the state.

Giving its verdict on Wednesday, the Tribunal said it was satisfied that there were discrepancies during the governorship election held on April 11.

The Tribunal further asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the re-run elections.

There are 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom State.

After the April 11 election, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Udom Emmanuel was declared the winner by the INEC.

Mr Emmanuel polled a total of 996 071 votes, ahead of the candidate of the All Progressive Congress’s, Umana Okon Umana, who got 89 865.

No date has been fixed for the election re-run.
