Buhari Says Jonathan’s Govt Handled Chibok Girls Case With Incompetence

President Muhammadu Buhari says the conflicting reports that emerged from the government and the security chiefs in the days shortly after the over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram in Chibok, Borno State, portrayed the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan in bad light locally and internationally.

Buhari stated this on Wednesday while granting audience to members of the BringBackOurGirls group led by Dr. Oby Ezekwesili.

Buhari explained that the response by Jonathan’s government to the incident was far from being impressive and unfortunate.

“We cannot rationalise the government’s incompetence in handling this issue,” he said.

The President, however, reiterated the commitment of his administration to mobilise and deal with the scourge of terrorism across the country.

While hosting the #BringBackOurGirls campaigners at the presidential villa in Abuja on Wednesday, ?President Muhammadu Buhari asked for patience from Nigerians on the issue of the girls’ rescue.

“It is ironic how Nigeria, which helped Sierra Leone, Liberia and South Sudan,? is now asking for help from Niger and Chad. How have the mighty fallen!” the president said.

“?I don’t think we can rationalise the [past] government’s incompetence in dealing with this issue. We only ask for your patience.”
