The senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Senator Clever Marcus Ikisikpo has dumped the People’s Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday.

Addressing journalists shortly after defecting with other PDP members to the APC at national secretariat in Abuja, Ikisikpo said Bayelsa State Governor Dickson Seriake will soon join the APC too.

In his words, “It is, indeed, unfortunate that the PDP which used to be known for fairness and ability to accommodate different shades of opinion has been hijacked by a few people.”

Ikisikpo said they decided to defect from the PDP in order to serve the interests of their constituents and entire Bayelsa State. Ikisikpo who had been in the state House of Assembly as well as the House of Representatives under the platform of PDP since 1999 said they joined APC to ensure that Bayelsa State did not miss out in the direction the nation is going.

“A case in point is the election of members to represent Ogbia in the national and state Assemblies in the just concluded general elections. Primordial and sentimental considerations were given priority over and above competence and fairness, which had been the norm in our area,” the senator said.

The other lawmakers who defected with him are Mr Nadu Karibo, House of Representatives member representing Ogbia constituency, Azibola Omekwe, member representing Ogbia constituency at the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and Mr Azibola Omekwe. Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva said the defection of the lawmakers was a precursor to the big harvest coming the way of the APC.
