Following the efforts of the Nigerian army and other regional forces, which has led to the gradual restoration of lost territories and relative calm from the threats of insurgents in Borno State; the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has moved to further afford more people the opportunity to vote in the forthcoming elections.

INEC says it has printed about 200,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for individuals, who registered under the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Borno.

Mr Tommy Magbuin, the INEC Public Affairs Officer in Borno, stated this in an interview on Sunday with NAN in Maiduguri. “INEC has printed over 200,000 PVCs for voters captured during the recent CVR in Borno. “This has brought the total number of registered voters in the state to about 2 million,” Magbuin said.

He advised those that were registered to collect their PVCs at the INEC Maiduguri Metropolitan Council office or Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps. “Individuals who registered in Maiduguri or Jere Local Government Areas (LGA) can collect their PVCs at the INEC Maiduguri Metropolitan Council Office. “While those registered at the LGA IDP camps should collect their PVCs at the camps,” Magbuin said.

He said that INEC was still making efforts to collect the outstanding PVCs for voters registered in about 100 Polling Units in 2011 in Maiduguri and Jere LGA. Magbuin advised the affected persons to be patient as the cards were being awaited from Abuja.
