Mr James Olotu, Managing Director, Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) on Friday commended traditional rulers and communities around the site of the new Olorunsogo 2 Power Station for their support in ensuring completion of the project. Olotu gave the commendation in his remarks at the official inauguration of the 750 mega watts power station in Ogun State.

He said the traditional rulers and the residents of the communities where the power station was sited had contributed immensely to the actualisation of the project.
Olotu recalled that the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) was conceived in 2004 to fast-track government funding initiative to add significant generation, transmission and distribution capacity to Nigeria’s electricity supply system.

He said this was sequel to the power sector reform initiative aimed at transforming the inefficient public-sector-run monopoly into a more efficient competitive electricity industry.

“Power generation in the country today has improved tremendously with NIPP power stations playing an increasingly significant role in adding to the generation mix for Nigerians.

“Actual generation capacity has consistently hovered around 5, 000 mega watts with NIPP contribution rising daily as more units are synchronised into the grid system.

“This power plant was constructed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) scheme.

“It was a programme initiated in 2004 to bridge the infrastructure gap in the power sector,’’ the NDPHC managing director said.

Olotu said that concrete steps were being taken, which would herald a new horizon in the power sector and drive darkness permanently from Nigeria.

“I, therefore, appeal to Nigerians to give Mr President a chance and vote massively for his second term in office in order to stay the course,’’ he said. According to him, this will give the president the platform to bring his transformation home for the greater benefit of all Nigerians.
