The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of 19 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG). Controversial Police Commissioner in charge of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja who was redeployed from Rivers State was among those promoted to the rank of AIG.

Mbu is popular for the long face-off he had with the Rivers State Governor, Mr Rotimi Amaechi and his ‘alleged loyalty’ to the wife of Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience.

A statement by the spokesman of the Commission Ferdinand Ekpe said the affected officers are: “Ambrose O. Aisibor, Adebayo Ajileye, Umaru Abubakar Manko, Joel Kayode Theophilus, Wilfred Eje Obute, Felix Osita Uyanna, A. J. Abakasanga, Jubril Olawale Adeniji and Ibrahim M. Maishanu.”

He added: “Godfrey E. Okeke, Chintua Amajor-Onu, Lawal Tanko, Usman Akila Gwarry, Kalafite Helen Adeyemi, Yahaya Garba Ardo, Irimiya F. Yerima, Olufemi A. Adenaike, Mbu Joseph Mbu and Patrick Dey Dokumor.”

Ekpe while saying all the appointments are with effect from 20th August, 2014, noted that the promotions became necessary to fill the vacancies created by recent retirements/promotions in the Force and to re-invigorate and reposition Zonal and other Commands headed by AIGS.
