Nigerians have severally been described as been resilient. Immanuel James’s debut novel, Under Bridge is a book that aptly captures this never-say-never spirit.

The protagonist, Victor Ekwueme is left to his devices after his parents’ marriage packs up, leaving him to father his three siblings. He journeys to Lagos from his village in Eastern Nigeria to find greener pastures but is engaged in a roundabout battle with poverty and fate there. His struggles shape his beliefs on life, politics,marriage, morality and religion that are critical to his emergence at the the end of the tunnel.

Described by Onyeka Nwelue, filmmaker and author of The Abyssinnian Boy as “unputdownable”, the book is suspense-filled, with unseeimg eventualities lurking at every corner.
