Cultist Stab APC Councillor To Death In Rivers State

A Councillor in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Mr. Sotonye Georgewill, was on Sunday night killed by two gunmen.

The deceased, a member of the All Progressives Congress represented Ward 2 as a councillor in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.

The Councillor was killed at about 8.45pm on Accra Street in Port Harcourt by his assailants, who took to their heels after carrying out their operation.

Reacting to the incident, the Rivers State Governor Chibike Amaechi said the killing of the Councillor was sad and shocking. He said the State Government is waiting for the outcome of Police investigation over the Councillor’s murder.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police Johnson Ogunsakin who confirmed the incident said the killing of the Councillor was cult related.

“We are aware of the incident and it was a sad thing. We have established that it was a cult related case and I have ordered my men to identify and arrest all known cult leaders in the State” he said.

The councillor, who left a wife and two children behind, was said to have come out of his residence to wait for an unidentified person that called him on his mobile phone.

The deceased, according to one of his relatives, lived in his grandfather’s house in Old Port Harcourt Town before he met his untimely death.
The State Police Public Relations, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, said he was not in Port Harcourt and could not speak on the matter.
