IG Orders Investigation Into Rivers Crisis

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered a full scale investigation into the Jan 12 incident, leading to the alleged shooting of Sen. Magnus Abe, in Rivers.

This information is contained in a statement issued by CSP Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer, in Abuja on Wednesday.

The statement said that to ensure speedy probe of the incident, Mohammed had constituted an investigation team head by a Commissioner of Police, Mr Idrs Farouk.

It stated that the team had been mandated to visit the scene of the incident and interview all relevant parties, including organisers of the event in which the senator was allegedly shot.

The statement added that the team would also interview “police officers and other key witnesses’’ so as to obtain full and unbiased account of the incident to aid the investigation.

“While promising fairness and justice to all, the Inspector General called on the citizens of the state to cooperate with the investigative team, remain calm and shun all inflammatory or presumptuous statements.

“He further urged the good people of Rivers State to continue to respect the laws of the land while going about their normal businesses,’’ it said.
