A former Senate Chief Whip and a stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Senator Adawari Pepple, has said the people of the state will not support the All Progressives Congress (APC) because they detest the high-handedness and lack of focus by the party leadership.
Pepple, who spoke to THISDAY in a interview yesterday, said he and the people of Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area were fully in support of the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, becoming the next governor of Rivers state in 2015.
He claimed that the Rivers people, their elders and other well-meaning people have been at the mercy of the governor with a lot of insults being thrown at them.
Giving reasons why he is supporting the candidacy of Wike, the PDP chieftain said the Minister possessed the right political acumen and humane character that has endeared him to the people.
He also tried to exonerate Wike from the crisis in the education sector, saying as the Minister of Education, he tried his best under the circumstances to resolve the turbulent issues in the education sector, especially the protracted industrial action.
He said first four years of governor Amaechi had witnessed good development strides in which many schools were built but that in the last three years things has degenerated when the governor “started playing politics and hob-nobbing with the opposition and abandoned his core responsibilities to the Rivers people.”
