A lady has said that her brother woke up blind after contracting the new strain of coronavirus.

The lady shared a photo of her brother’s eye on Twitter and disclosed the information.

She tweeted, ”My brother has a mutated strain of Covid-19; he woke up BLIND & an ambulance took him to the ER. I guess it’s a rare strain; less than 10% get it. They have no idea how much of his sight he’ll recover. Hopefully all! How terrifying!”

Doctors say that according to data collected so far, 1%-3% of people with regular COVID-19 will get conjunctivitis, also called pinkeye. It happens when the virus infects a tissue called conjunctiva, which covers the white part of the eye or the inside of the eyelids.

However, the effects of this new strain of coronavirus that is discovered in the United Kingdom are still uncertain but initial reports say that the virus spread more quickly than the normal strain of COVID-19.

This new strain has forced the UK to impose a Tier 4 lockdown in London and southeastern England. And, some European countries like Belgium, France, Italy, Republic of Ireland, Netherlands and Latvia have all suspended flights from the UK.
