An Islamic Scholar, Malam Lawal Gusau lodged a complaint against the Feminist Coven to the Department of State Services for the role it played in the recent EndSARS protest.
In the EndSARS protests, thousands of Nigerian youths marched to demand an end against Police brutality and the SARS unit accused of extrajudicial killings and abuses.
The decentralised social movement against police brutality in Nigeria. The slogan calls for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a controversial unit of the Nigerian Police Force with a long record of human-rights abuses.
The Complaint titled Complaint of Instigation of Public Disturbances, Instigation of Nigerians Against a Government Institution (Nigeria Police Force) and Subversion of Nigerian Democracy Against one Fikhirriya Hashim and Her Organisation, Feminist Coalition’ dates back to October 26, 2020.
Gusau pinpointed a member of the coalition, Fakhriyya Hashim to have allegedly fuelled public unrest.
He also filed petitions to President Muhammadu Buhari, the British High Commission, the African Union, the United Nations and the United States Government.
He alleged that the group financed the EndSARS protests.
The petition read in part, “Fakhriyya a Nigerian residing in the United Kingdom, has been the brains behind the crisis and she did confess in her social media postings as well as interview with the BBC Hausa Service.
“So, we hold Fakhriyya, her NGO and all those related with the protests responsible for lives that were lost as well as all the properties destroyed by the protesters across the nation.
“In view of the above, we wish to request you to use your good offices and God-given position to commence full-scale investigation, arrest and prosecution of Fikhirriya and her co-travellers.
“We have attached all documented facts that will not only prove our evidence but will give you more insight into fakhriyya’s excesses and disrespect to the people and government of Nigeria.”
The Feminist Coalition, a non-governmental organization originally created to push for gender equality in Nigeria, has recently rose to become the forerunner of support for the #EndSARS protests.
They joined millions of other Nigerian youths across the country to call for police reforms and have reportedly raised about 9.9 Bitcoins and other cash donations totaling N77.19 million.
The funds were largely disbursed to support the protests with hospital bills for injured protesters, food, water, first aid supplies, and more.
