Borno South lawmaker, Senator Ali Ndume has hailed the achievement of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ndume lauded the President’s integrity saying that “the president is a genuine person that has the interest of the common man at heart”.
The Senator made these remarks on Sunday while speaking on a Channels Television programme, Politics Today monitored by NewsWireNGR .
He said that the Buhari administration came in with three major agendas it has succeeded in. The agendas are to secure the country, to fight corruption, and to provide infrastructure.
Ndume however added that the implementation of certain policies by the government is the reason for the government’s shortcomings.
These shortcomings are caused by the kleptocrats who failed the job they were appointed to do by the President.
“He has integrity and the competence but unfortunately, the kleptocrats in the government have formed the majority and therefore are betraying the laudable policies that the president wants to implement”.
Ndume who also doubles as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, said he sees nothing wrong with the proposed Social Media Bill.
The Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulations Bill, also known as the Social Media Bill, was proposed by Mr Mohammed Sani Musa, who says its aim is to curb the spread of false news.
The bill which has passed its second reading at the Senate has been a topic of great debate as many believe that the bill is aimed at gagging the press and infringing on the expression rights of individuals.
He said,“there is nothing wrong in having social media bill”.
Ndume who stated clearly that he is not saying freedom of speech should be muzzled, noted, however, that people should be held responsible for what they say or do.
The lawmaker was of the opinion that there should be a kind of law that controls or guides the way you express yourself on social media. Adding that “anything in this world that has no control can be disastrous”.
