Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, has imports a violence-charged chant into Ondo state ahead of the governorship election in the state.
The election in the south-west state is scheduled for October 10.
Bello, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was chairman of the party’s governorship primary election committee in Ondo.
The committee organised the primary election which produced Rotimi Akeredolu, incumbent governor of the state, as the party’s candidate.
TheCable Newspaper reports that Bello was Speaking at the APC mega rally in Akure, Ondo state capital, on Wednesday, Bello raised the chant which incites violence.
Delivered in a local language, the chant appealed to the people to vote Akeredolu for a second term in office and that those who refuse to do so may face consequences.
“It’s Aketi that we want as governor. What are they saying? Clean dirty away. What are they talking about? if you don’t want him as governor, them go hear am ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta,” he chanted in a Kogi dialect.
“Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta” is the rhythm of a rifle.
Bello did a similar chant during his re-election campaign in Kogi. The song became popular among the electorate as women sang it across the streets.
NewsWireNGR recalls that candidates of political parties participating in the Ondo State Governorship election had only just recently signed a peace accord.

The Independent National Electoral Commission said the pact was to ensure a violence-free election.
Among those who signed the peace accord are candidates of the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party, Rotimi Akeredolu and Eyitayo Jegede, respectively.
The candidate of the Zenith Labour Party and Akeredolu’s deputy, Agboola Ajayi, also joined others in signing the accord facilitated by the National Peace Committee.
