The presidential campaign organisation of Sokoto state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has promised to pull all stops to unite all stakeholders in its effort to create a new future for Nigeria. The campaign disclosed this during a press briefing ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential convention in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital.
The campaign Director General, Dr. Mike Omeri remarked that Tambuwal was on a mission to rescue the country by unifying and building consensus among all the actors involved. “We have spoken to these delegates and they understand the needs that Nigeria needs Nigerians and we are presenting a man with a track record who seeks to mend fences and unite and that person is Waziri Tambuwal,” he said.
Omeri praised the quality of aspirants within the PDP who are also genuinely concerned about the state of the nation and sought to move it forward. He called on delegates to rally around Governor Tambuwal whom he branded as youthful, experienced, devoid of corruption and a performer giving his sterling records as Governor of Sokoto state.
“Our candidate has the credentials of being one of the very few that has served in public office and is yet to be invited by any of the anti graft agencies in the country. He has the most outstanding performance track record out there. He is young and appeals to a generation of young people and believes the future of Nigeria is now.
“We are coming with someone who has served for 16 years st the National Assembly leadership, who has toured all the federal constituencies across Nigeria and understands the yearnings of the Nigerian people,” he said.
The Tambuwal campaign criticised President Buhari’s incompetency and high-handedness and said that Tambuwal was a better option and who is constitutionally immune to the reckless abuse of executive power that is characteristic of the Buhari administration.
“The first thing we need in Nigeria today is we need a President who seeks and has a deliberate intention to unite this country and the second thing is a President who has the capacity. It is one thing not to be corrupt, it is another not to have capacity. This government lacks capacity. Tambuwal has the capacity and certificates that are not with the army.
“Tambuwal is one of the few opposition candidates that the government will not drag him to the Tribunal or the Police.”
Omeri reacted to the a question about the support of Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike for Tambuwal. “That is good news for me and if you are telling me the Governor of Rivers State is backing us that is good because we have been canvassing for votes and please encourage him and other governors to support us more too,” he said in a jocular manner.
Omeri assured party delegates that Tambuwal has what it takes to defeat President Buhari at the polls.
“All the supporters are looking for a candidate that will come to equity with clean hands and Tambuwal is that person with the capacity to take down this government in any general election“.
