A man identified as Nurudeen Olanose was shot dead on  Saturday while three others were critically injured when violence broke out at the Local Government Congress of the All Progressive Congress (APC) held in Agege area of the State.

The Congress was reportedly said to be going on smoothly at the Central School, Dopemu, venue of the exercise, when unknown hoodlums were said to have invaded the place, shooting sporadically into the air while party members scampered to safety.

Eyewitnesses revealed to newsmen that the attacks and the subsequent killings may not be unrelated to the supremacy battle currently going on between different camps within the State and Local Government caucuses.

“Everything has been orderly when some boys just found their way into the school compound. The next thing was for them to start shooting into the air, making people to run in different sections. As we were running, they kept shooting. I don’t know when the man shot dead because everything was upside down,” Jayeoba Kolawole, who claimed that he was at the Congress venue at the time said.

Another party member, Kehinde Olatunji who also claimed to have witnessed the scene said it appeared that the killing was targeted at late Olanose because those who killed him, wasted no time to disappear thereafter.

“It’s like they have been on his trail for sometimes because when they shot him, they just left immediately. And I can say this may be as a result of political among our leaders in this local government,” Kolawole said.
