A Civil Society organization, under the aegis of #IstandWithBuhari, has said that it will mobilize Nigerians from the thirty-six states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory to hold a solidarity march in Abuja before end of the month to support the administration’s crusade against corruption.
The group said the federal government should not succumb to blackmail but should ensure that all the persons indicted and found guilty in the ongoing anti corruption war are all sent to prison.
Addressing a press conference yesterday in Abuja, the Head, Media and Publicity of the group, Ibrahim Garba Wala, said that greater collaboration between the citizenry and government will result in greater trust and cooperation among parties for more implementation of government programmes.
The organization said that it has become necessary to bring together a group of dedicated Nigerians from all works of life cutting across religious, ethnic and social backgrounds to champion the campaign to ensure that the change mantra is realised.
Wala said: “as a civil society organization, we have deemed it imperative to articulate a project whose cardinal objective will be to always collaborate with government in areas of common interest, especially the current administration’s efforts in working to eliminate corruption in every facet of our national life, and the need to sensitize Nigerians on the values of good governance and selfless services based on democratic ethic and norms.”
The non-profit and non-partisan organization further said that group was purely to support the administration polices especially the fight against corruption, hence it will, on March 31, march in order to entrench good governance for the benefit of Nigerians.
“It is also important to point out that we are a non-profit & non-partisan organisation, and our mandate remains purely to compliment and support this Administration in order to entrench good governance for the benefit of Nigeria and all Nigerians. We are not members of any existing political party in Nigeria, neither are we illegally funded by a political party, a politician or a Government agency. We depend purely on contributions by Nigerians, our members and patriotic stakeholders who believe in our mandate.
“It is in recognition of this that we have proclaimed 31st March, ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY, to give the opportunity to Nigerians to identify with this day globally, where we can boldly tell the world that we are tired of corruption in Nigeria.”
