Former Governor of Lagos state and All progressives Party (APC) chieftain Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerian editors to help in the fight against corruption and to also support the president’s media aides to make their jobs less challenging.
Tinubu who was represented by the governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomole said this during the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) reception for Femi Adesina and Graba Shehu, Friday night in Abuja.
Adesina and Shehu who are both former presidents of the guild were recently appointed special adviser and senior special assistant; media and publicity respectively to President Muhammdu Buhari.
Tinubu who was the chairman of the occasion said the two media aides needed the guild’s support to make their jobs easier because as spokesmen of the president they have a huge task but ” the men and women in this hall has what it takes to make their job less challenging”.
Tinubu said: “For me, the media are the best fighters. If you don’t fight, the society will not grow.”
He said editors should keep fighting until the war against corruption was won. “Garba keep fighting, Adesina keep fighting, Editors keep fighting until the war against corruption is won, until Nigeria is free from insurgency and until we create a country that is not oil dependent.”
Tinubu congratulated the NGE for having two of their members appointed by the President to play important role in his administration.
“I believe it is a reflection of the appreciation of Mr President of the role of the media in democracy.”
