Keshi Still The Boss Of The Super Eagles Says Amokachi

by Zenith Oduah

Despite leading Nigeria’s senior football team, the Super Eagles, in two international friendlies against Uganda and South Africa in the last one week, Daniel Amokachi insisted yesterday that Stephen Keshi is still the boss of the team.

Amokachi, 42, said that Keshi still calls the shots in the team even though he has yet to sign a new contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

His stance on Keshi reinforces his earlier statement that Keshi picked the team that lost 1-0 to Uganda last week at the Uyo stadium.

“He (Keshi) is the boss he is in charge of the team. For now, by his grace, I am the one who is handling these two games (against Uganda and South Africa). As the chief, you definitely have to call, this is what is going on and this is what it is. How did you see the game? and we break it down,” observed Amokachi.

“He chips in one, two, three, that is normal. You cannot play football alone, it is not an island.
“I’m an interim coach and that question (on the state of the head coach position) should go to the administrators,” observed Amokachi to reporters after Eagles drew 1-1 with Bafana Bafana in Nelspruit last Sunday.

“He is a good player, we were the more experienced team. Musa is a world-class player that he is. You can see the goal he scored was reminiscent of the one he scored against Argentina at the World Cup in Brazil. It was brilliant,” observed Amokachi to africanfootball.com.

“We needed that experience because we have a lot of young players and new players coming into the team and I’m sure he contributed something special in that way.

“He is the most capped player in the team, after Vincent Enyeama who was unavoidably absent due to injury. I definitely think he is a well deserved captain for the day, capping it with a brilliant goal,” concludes the Eagles gaffer.
