The National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has reacted to the statement released by the president’s Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe in which he attacked the APC and General Muhammadu Buhari’s speach.
Oyegun said that Okupe’s speech shows that the PDP have little understanding of history, describing APC as the only true alternative Nigeria has had since 1999.
“Well, it means that they are not good students of history and they are not realistic and practical. Before now, there was no truly national alternative in this nation; before now, we had the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) that was domiciled in the North-east, we had the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) that was domiciled in the South-west and off course they had members all over the places.
“We had the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) that was largely domiciled in the South-east. These three forces have been wielded together. Today, we have a national party that is represented, the APC, strongly in every corner of the country. Today man, woman, children are crying for change and the dynamics are different and l pray they continue to mis-read the signs of the changing times and that would be good for us
Also responding, Mr Osita Okechukwu of the Buhari Campaign Organisation said the Presidency should have looked indepth into Buhari’s speech before throwing accusations at him. He said should President Jonathan have fulfilled his duties to Nigeria, there would have been no urgent calls from Nigeria for Buhari to intervene and save the nation.
“It is our candid view that if President Goodluck Jonathan has in the past four years provided Nigerians with adequate security, waged strident war against corruption, and ruled according to the spirit and letters of the 1999 Constitution, as amended; the urgent call of millions of Nigerians for Buhari to come and fix the country and stop the dangerous slide of Nigeria into failed state, could not have arisen.
According to him, “we advise the presidency to careful go through the declaration speech before resorting to invectives and mudslinging; as GMB first and foremost a patriot does not need to school in Harvard to appreciate that millions of our dear countrymen are grappling with extreme poverty, and barely eking out a living.”
According to him, the National Bureau of Statistics report bear unequivocal testimony “to the truism that the economy continues to deteriorate, with epileptic power supply, collapse of industries, massive food imports and business uncertainty; while the Government continues to announce fantastic growth figures.
“In sum, we will restrain ourselves from mudslinging and advise the presidency to do so as well as; for if we are forced to release the ungodly dossier in our docket, the country will troop the streets,” he said.
