Governors under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will meet this week to take a stand on endorsement of sole Governorship candidature for the 2015 elections. The Vanguard reports.
The Governors are aggrieved about the decision of the National working committee to stop the endorsement of their favoured candidate as the sole candidate even after endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole Presidential candidate of the party. They are of the opinion that they should be allowed to enjoy the same measure extended to the President.
The meeting is expected to hold on Tuesday or Wednesday, at the Asokoro, Abuja. According to a source who spoke with The Vanguard, the governors will look at their decision of endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole presidential candidate of the PDP ahead of the December 6 National Convention and the February, 2015 general elections which the Party’s National Caucus, Board of Trustees, BoT and the National Executive Committee, NEC agreed with and is to be ratified at the Party’s National Convention.
They are also expected discuss the on- going sale of forms especially with regard to the governorship forms being obtained at the Party’s National Secretariat.
Most of the 19 Governors under the platform of PDP have served their full term and are working har to secure their future by installing those whom they trust as their succesors.
Enugu state Governor, Sullivan Chime has taken time to defend the endorsement of Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Governor Godswill Akpabio is believed to want Mr. Udom Emmanuel, Martins Elechi of Ebonyi State has endorsed the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu.
Delta State, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan is rooting for Anthony Chucks Obuh. Governor Isa Yuguda prefers any of Dr. Musa Babayo and former Minister of State, Health, Dr. Muhammed Ali Pate.
Thus the meeting of the PDP governors has become a nececcity. The Governors understand the power they wield on the party and if they reached a common position on the matter, they will corner the National leaders into agreeing with them.
