A deeply saddening incident has occurred in Jigawa State, where a 30-year-old mother of four committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree in Sumore village, Dutse Local Government Area.
The deceased, identified as Adams Hannafi, was a housewife whose lifeless body was discovered hanging around 3:00 PM on Tuesday by passersby who quickly notified the security agencies.
The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the tragedy through its Spokesman, SP. Lawan Shiisu Adam. According to the police statement, a team from the Yalwawa Division rushed to the scene upon receiving the report.
- The body was carefully lowered and examined. The Police reported no suspicion of foul play. The deceased was transported to Dutse General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.
- Preliminary investigation revealed that Adams Hannafi had been battling a mental illness prior to the tragic event.
The deceased leaves behind her husband and four young children.
In response to the unfortunate incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed his profound sadness. He issued a strong plea to the public to prioritize the well-being of those around them.
The Commissioner urged members of the public to always show care and attention to relatives or neighbours exhibiting signs of mental distress. Furthermore, he advised families to seek medical and psychological support early enough to prevent similar tragic occurrences in the future.
