The Zamfara Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), on Wednesday, confirmed the murder of Alhaji Hamisu Danjibga, the state Correspondent of the Voice of Nigeria (VON).
A statement issued in Gusau by the state NUJ Secretary, Ibrahim Ahmad, said that the body of the deceased was dumped in a soakaway by those who murdered him.
“The discovery of his corpse was as result of unpleasant odor observed by children of an Islamic School behind his house in the evening of Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
“After breaking the soakaway, the dead body was confirmed to be that of Danjibga by his family and some neighbors”, the statement said.
Danjibga had been missing for three days before his corpse was found.
Sources said that the family was initially contacted to pay one million naira for his release, but the figure was raised by the faceless persons suspected to have murdered him.
Police had arrested one person suspected of involvement in the killing of the veteran journalist.
The NUJ extended its condolences to the deceased family, VON, and entire people of Zamfara.
It urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice.
Until his heinous murder, the late Danjigba was the Zamfara Correspomdent of the Hausa Service, Voice of Nigeria (VON).
He also reported for the Vision FM Radio and Farin Wata TV.
The deceased has been buried in Gusau according to Islamic injunctions.
APC mourns slain Zamfara veteran journalist, Danjibga
The Zamfara Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has mourned the death of veteran Journalist in the state, Hamisu Danjibga, who was murdered by gunmen recently.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Gusau on Thursday by the state Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, the party described Danjibga’s murder as disheartening.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Danjibga, who was the State Correspondent of Voice of Nigeria (VON) had been missing for three days before his corpse was found in a soakaway behind his house on Wednesday.
“The state party Chairman, Alhaji Tukur Danfulani wishes to commiserate with the immediate families of the deceased, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and entire members of the NUJ Correspondents Chapel in the state over the Danjibga’s death,”Idris said.
The scribe further described Danjibga as a friend to everyone, saying,” he was dedicated and he spent the whole of his life in serving humanity through journalism profession.
“This is a great loss to journalism profession, Zamfara and Nigeria as a whole.
“We pray to Allah to forgive his sins and grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
Idris said that the state APC leadership, has therefore, urged security agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators of the terrible act to book.
NAN also reports that the remains of the deceased had since been buried in Gusau, the Zamfara capita, according to Islamic rites.
Speaker condemns murder of Zamfara VON Correspondent
The Speaker of Zamfara House of Assembly, Alhaji Bilyaminu Moriki on Thursday condemned the murder of veteran journalist, Alhaji Hamisu Danjibga who was murdered by criminals recently.
The speaker in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bello Madaro described Danjibga’s murder as a great loss not only to the deceased family
but Zamfara, Nigeria and entire journalism profession.
“On behalf of my self, my family, entire members and staff of the house, I am extending my condolence to the family of the deceased, Zamfara NUJ Council, state NUJ Correspondent’s Chapel and entire working journalists in the state.”
The speaker also prayed Allah to grant the deceased paradise and give the family courage to bear the loss.
He urged security agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators of the terrible act to book.
NUJ seeks thorough investigation into death of Zamfara VON reporter
The Zamfara Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on security agencies to conduct thorough investigation into the death of Hamisu Danjibga, a Reporter with the Voice of Nigeria (VON).
A statement signed by the Council Secretary, Ibrahim Ahmad in Gusau on Wednesday said: “The union regrets to announce the death of Hamisu Danjibga of Voice of Nigeria (VON) whose body was found in a soakaway behind his house three days after missing.
“The discovery of his corpse was as result of an unpleasant odour smelt by some Islamiya children in the evening of Wednesday who drew the attention of their teachers.
“After breaking the soakaway the dead body was confirmed to be that of Danjibga by his family and some neighbors.
“His funeral rites had since been observed according to Islamic injunctions.”
The union extended its heartfelt condolence to the family, Voice of Nigeria and the entire people of the state.
The council, while expressing deep concern over the nature of Danjibga’s demise, appealed to the security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice.
