He was eventually banned from major Las Vegas casinos due to his unbeatable performance at blackjack tables.

With a net worth of $1 billion, Benter receives an additional $1 million annually and is known for his charitable donations in the US and Hong Kong.

In Hong Kong, he joined forces with Alan Woods, a fellow mathematician and gambling enthusiast, to develop a formula for horse race betting using analytical software. The success of this software earned them a fortune, and after they went their separate ways, Benter continued to improve the software, further increasing his wealth.

4. Edward Thorp – $800 Million

Edward Thorp, also known as the “Father of Card Counting,” is recognized for his exceptional betting skills and wealth primarily acquired from blackjack and baccarat tables.

Thorp was a mathematics professor at several prestigious universities and worked with Claude Shannon to invent the first wearable computer in the 1960s. He also authored the highly successful book “Beat the Dealer” in 1962.

His expertise in science and technology and his gambling prowess earned him a net worth of $800 million. He was inducted into the Blackjack Hall of Fame for his theories documented in the books “Beat the Dealer” and “Beat the Market.”

5. Andrew Black – $670 million

Black invented a software company and met Edward Wray while playing bridge. Wray saw potential in Black’s algorithm, designed to predict horse race outcomes, and invested in the project. The two then founded Betfair, a major betting site, and Black’s net worth is estimated at $670 million.

6. Alan Woods – $500 Million

Alan and Bill Benter were banned from Las Vegas casinos, leading them to switch to horse races in Hong Kong.

After their separation, Woods made his model just as successful as Benter’s. However, as his betting syndicate was investigated by law enforcement, Woods was forced to flee to the Philippines.

Despite this, Woods continued to bet from his private property and amassed a substantial fortune of approximately $500 million, working in close collaboration with his former competitor, Zeljko Ranogajec.

7. Zeljko Ranogajec – $439 Million

Zeljko Ranogajec, known as the “Joker of the gambling universe,”  accumulated a vast fortune through various forms of gambling, including keno, blackjack, sports betting, and horse race betting.

His skills were so impressive that he was banned from all major casinos in Australia and Las Vegas. Ranogajec holds the record for the biggest keno win, which was approximately $7.5 million at a New South Wales casino.

He later created software to forecast the results of horse races, which became a crucial tool for betting groups.
