Biography
Lamide Akintobi is a journalist and media personality. She is experimenting with documentary filmmaking to share some of the many African stories she believes the world should be aware of.
Akintobi was born in Lagos on August 19, 1987, to Laolu Akins, the famous Nigerian music producer. She is 35 years as of 2022
The renowned journalist was recognised by the Women in Journalism Organisation and was listed as one of the “50 Women Changing Journalism in Nigeria.”
Education
Lamide had her elementary education and part of her secondary education in Nigeria before heading to the UK, where she completed her secondary education at Archbishop Michael Ramsey, after which she attended Bacon’s College, also in London, for her A-Levels.
She then moved to the U.S, where she attended Volunteer State Community College in Tennessee, where she graduated Summa cum Laude with an AA Degree in Broadcast Journalism & Spanish.
Later, she headed to Texas A&M University-Commerce on scholarship, where she bagged a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish (Magna cum laude)
She earned an M.A. (with Merit) in International Journalism from City University in London in 2011 as a British Council Chevening Scholar.
Career
Lamide has previously worked as a news anchor, producer, and reporter for Channels Television and Television Continental and as a freelance presenter/producer for Ebonylife TV, a Pan-African Entertainment Network.
The popular TV show, “The Spot,” was co-created, co-presented, and produced by her until it ended in mid-2017.
Classic Moments: True Stories, EL Now, The Calabar Jazz Festival, The Calabar Carnival, With Mikel – a special docu-reality program on Chelsea F.C player, John Mikel Obi, VVIP, and Travel/Documentary Specials in Rwanda are among the other programs she produced
She also moderated and hosted panels where she interviewed President Goodluck Jonathan, President Muhammad Buhari, and other top government officials.
Lamide hosted Season 2 of the TV show “Church Culture,” produced by Red Media/YNaija TV and aired on Channels TV. She freelanced for CNN’s Africa Features, producing shows such as Innovate Africa, African Voices, and Inside Africa.
She has also been the editor of Diaspora Quarterly, a quarterly magazine dedicated to telling the stories of Nigerians in the Diaspora and returnees making a difference in Nigeria.
As a firm believer in community service, Lamide assisted in establishing a presence for her service organisation, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, in West Africa in 2021.
