Rapper ‘Reminisce’: Biography, Education, Career, Marriage, Net Worth, Achievements and Controversy

Reminisce, real name, Remilekun Khalid Safaru, is a Nigerian singer, indigenous rapper, songwriter, and actor.

He was born on 26 January 1981 in Kaduna state. Reminisce is 41 years old as of 2022.

He is known to deliver his raps in English and his native language, Yoruba. Undoubtedly, Reminisce is one of Nigeria’s most influential modern-day rappers.

The rapper is signed to Edge Records and he is also the founder and creative director of LRR Records.

Reminisce graduated from Kwara State Polytechnic, where he bagged a diploma in purchasing and supply.

Reminisce stormed the Nigeria music arena in 2008, contributing a rap stanza to the song “Bachelor’s Life” off 9ice’s follow-up album, “Gongo Aso.”

His debut track, “Ever Since,” with 9ice, told the tale of his life up to that point. Dtunez produced his second single, “If Only,” a love ballad.

Book of Rap Stories, Reminisce’s debut album, was released on March 31, 2012. After collaborating with the studio producer Sarz at Edge Records Studios, he began recording the album in 2010.

Sarz, Legendury Beatz, Joshbeatz, Jospo, and PastorChild produced the album. Commercially, the record was a hit.

On November 15, 2013, his second album, ALAGA IBILE, was formally launched. Wizkid, Naeto c, Davido, Olamide, and Sossick; Producers Sossick, Sarz, Chopstix, and Jospo collaborated with Reminisce on the project.

Before the end of 2014, the album is predicted to have sold a million copies. In 2014, Time Magazine listed Reminisce as one of seven “global rappers you should meet.”

2015 saw the release of Baba Hafusa, the third album by Reminisce. Reminisce debuted at number 12 on the Billboard Charts for World Music as the first African hip-hop artist.

It was hailed as a “genre-busting record” and a front-runner for album of the year, with music critics and listeners praising the blending of hip hop, fuji, and afrobeat.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria in July 2020, Reminisce released the EP Vibes & Insha Allah. Over 4.5 million people listened to the EP on Audiomack in just four months.

The 6-track music album includes the works of Fireboy DML, Mo Safaru, and Fatimah Safaru along with other people. Tmxo, Krizbeatz, and Sarz finished the production.

Marriage

Reminisce is married to Iya Hafusa, and they have a daughter together.

Reminisce was listed as one of the seven “World Rappers You Should Meet” in 2014 by TIME Magazine. The Nigerian music website NotJustOk also listed him as one of the top three hip-hop artists of the year.

Reminisce was believed to have uttered some lyrics against fellow rappers M.I and Modenine in his single ‘Local Rappers.’

The line  ‘punchlines don’t bring in the money anymore’ was assumed by music lovers to be for the rappers.
