1. Atiku, PDP dare Wike, Makinde, begin campaigns Wednesday [Punch Newspaper]
The People’s Democratic Party has finalised plans to inaugurate its presidential campaign council on Wednesday, September 28, regardless of the withdrawal of some party heavyweights and prominent campaign council members led by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
The party revealed that all its programmes would be carried out as scheduled, adding that it had no plan to suspend them for any reason.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, disclosed this to The PUNCH in Abuja on Thursday.
The party made this position known after a series of meetings by its leadership between Wednesday and Thursday, following the pullout of the Wike-led group.
2. Northern Christians denounce Shehu Mahdi over inciting video [NewsWireNGR]
The Conference Of Northern Christians And Minority, CNCM, has denounced the Kaduna-based human rights activist, Shehu Mahdi, over an inciting video making rounds on the internet.
CNCM also called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Mahdi, saying that its content was divisive.
In a statement by its National President, Dr Bitrus Yakubu, the Christian group condemned in strong terms the attempt by Mahdi to cause a religious crisis in the country.
The group stated that Peter Obi was the choice of millions of Northerners, adding that nothing could sway them from voting for him. Read more.

Aformer Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, has claimed that the only problem in the party is caused by someone who lost an election.
Dele Momodu stated this on Thursday during a chat with ARISE TV while reacting to the recent withdrawal of Governor Nyesom Wike’s camp from the PDP campaign council.

5. Tambuwal replaces Fayemi as Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum [NewsWireNGR]
Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has replaced his Ekiti State counterpart, Kayode Fayemi, as the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).
Tambuwal assumed the position on Thursday at the National Economic Council meeting in Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
Disclosing the new development, the Director, Media and Public Affairs of NGF, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, in a statement on Thursday, said Tambuwal will be the interim Chairman of the Forum until May next year, when a proper election is conducted among the governors.
Before his new role, Tambuwal served as Vice Chairman of the Forum under Fayemi in the last four years.
Fayemi had recently been elected as the president of the Forum of Regions of Africa in an election held in the city of Saidia in Morocco. Read more.
6. Katsina Security Force: FG pursuing one country, two systems — Akeredolu [NewsWireNGR]
The governor of Ondo state and chairman of the Southwest governors’ forum, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has tackled the federal government for allowing Katsina state to arm its state security force while the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps) were barred from such.
Arakunrin Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu, SAN in a press statement he personally signed on Thursday said such action implies that Nigeria is pursuing one country, two systems.
According to him, “We Believe In One Nigeria, But We Cannot Have One Country, Two Systems The video making the rounds showing the equivalent of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps) in Katsina, obtaining the approval of the Federal Govt. to bear arms is fraught with great dangers.
“Denying Amotekun the urgently needed rights, to legitimately bear arms is a repudiation of the basis of true federalism which we have been clamoring for.
“That Katsina was able to arm its state security force, with the display of AK47 means we are pursuing one country, two systems solution to the national question.” Read more.
