Phyno (Real Name: Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike) was born on 9 October 1986  in Enugu State.

Azubuike is an indigenous singer, songwriter, rapper, and actor.

He is famous for rapping in Igbo language, making him one of the most influential indigenous rappers of all time in Nigeria. With the incorporation of Pidgin and English, he has reached a larger audience and captivated their attention.

Aside from music, Phyno is also a record producer and an actor.

Phyno holds a degree in public administration from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu.

Career

Phyno started with his debut album, No Guts No Glory, in 2014. An album which sees the appearance of top stars like Stormrex, Omawumi, Olamide, Efa, P-Square, Timaya, Flavour N’abania, Mr Raw, MI, Ice Prince and Runtown.

Later in 2012, he released the album’s lead single, “Ghost Mode”, with Olamide. The single became a rave of the moment that it won the Best Collabo at both 2012 The Headies Awards and the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. 

In 2015, Phyno released a joint project with Olamide titled 2Kings. It was released on Cloud 9 and iTunes store by Penthauze Music and YBNL Nation.

The ten-track project features songs like Cypher, Koba Koba, Nobody’s Fault, Ladi; God Be With Us, Une, Real Nigga, Confam Ni, and Carry Me Go, amongst others.

The album features top producers and stars like Wizkid, Pheelz, B-Banks, Storm Rex, Young John, Major Bangs, and Lil Kesh.

Phyno followed the joint project with a sophomore album, The Play Maker, under Penthauze records in 2016. P-Square, MI Abaga, Burna Boy, 2Baba, Flavour, Decarlo, Mr Eazi, Onyeka Onwenu, Olamide, Zoro and Tidinz.

It also witnesses professional production touches from Major Bangz, Tunex, Christ String, Kezyklef, Benjamz, MasterKraft, Del’B, and T-Spize.

Tooxclusve, a music site, described the work of art as the best thing recorded in the music industry that year.

Phyno followed this up with singles like Authentic ft Flavour, Oringo, Yayo, Alobam, Good Die Young, Aju ft Olamide, Nme Nme, Paper Chaser ft Illbliss, Shey You Know and Multiply ft Mr Raw, Flavor and Timaya.

In 2015, the music icon dropped other singles like Carry me go ft Storm Rex, For my city, Real Niga, God Be With Us, Ladi ft Lil Kesh, Nobody’s Fault, Koba Koba, and Cypher.

Later in 2016, Phyno crafted out some hit singles like Financial Woman, Ezege, So Far So Good, I’m a Fan ft Mr Easi & De Carlo, Ochie Dike ft Onyeka, Mkpotu ft Zoro & Tidinz, No Be My Style, Abulo, Okpeke, Asai, Connect, Ino Nma, and Yes I Pray (Nwa Ogenta).

The year 2019 sees another project, Deal With It, from Phyno. It is a 20-track craft with songs like Oso Ga Ene, Ma Chi, Gods Willing, Get the Info, Ride for You, Speak Life (On God), I Got Ur Back, Recognize, Vibe, Deri, and Ka Anyi Na Ayo amongst others.

In July 2021, Phyno released a new single, “Bia”

In 2013, Phyno was part of the Nigerian artist team that performed at the Star Music Trek tour in Owerri.  He was also a supporting act for the Hennessy Artistry Club Tou in 2013.

Phyno started his music festival, Phynofest, in 2015. The festival is one of the most anticipated music events among music lovers in Nigeria.

Aside from music, Phyno has also made an appearance in a movie, Lion Heart.

In 2014, Phyno was rumoured to have impregnated Rita Edmond. He, however, denied the allegations laid against him.

In addition, Rita denied getting pregnant for Phyno, stating that she had never met the rapper before.
