1. Boundary disputes worsen insecurity, 676 killed in states
No fewer than 676 persons have been killed in Nigeria’s communal and boundary disputes between January 2018 and August 2022.
Also, no fewer than 444 houses were destroyed during the crisis under review period.
This is happening as security agencies battle to contain bandits, militants, and other violent crimes across the country.
Security experts said the development required urgent intervention to prevent it from threatening the 2023 general elections, adding that the situation might worsen the security crisis in the country if the government failed to address the situation on time.
2. The Economist: Nigeria Missing Out On Rare Global Oil Boom Opportunity [ThisDay]
Nigeria has continued to waste the rare opportunity presented by the global rise in oil prices to grow its economy like other oil-producing countries, London-based The Economist has stated.
While a surge in oil prices could do astonishing things, like in Saudi Arabia where a futuristic city was planned to rise from the desert or Angola where its currency has suddenly become one of the strongest performers against the dollar, it noted that in Nigeria, the reverse was the case.

Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has described the Muslim-Muslim ticket decision by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 presidential election as “wayo”.
The controversial Islamic speaking on Monday assessed the three leading presidential candidates; Bola Ahmed Tinubu (APC), Atiku Abubakar (PDP) and Peter Obi (LP).

4. INEC uncovers several double registrants in Continuous Voter Registration [NewsWireNGR]
INEC has detected many double, multiple and ineligible registration in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) held between Jan. 1 and July 31.
Mr Festus Okoye, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, made the declaration in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.
He stated that the irregularities were discovered during the cleaning up of the voters register using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS). Read more.
5. Passengers stranded as Aviation workers shut operations at Kano airport [NewsWireNGR]
Flight operations at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport were, on Monday, grounded over a dispute between the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.
Following the crisis, flights scheduled to leave Kano, Monday morning, were disrupted as the Air Traffic Controllers suspended their operations which affected the landing and take-off of flights. Read more.
