Biography

Mercy Nnenda Chinwo is a Nigerian popular gospel music artist, singer, songwriter and actress

Mercy was born on the 5th of September 1990. Currently, she’s 32 years.

She hails from Port Harcourt where she was raised alongside her five other siblings.

Mercy is undoubtedly currently one of Nigeria’s star gospel musicians.

Education

Mercy started her elementary education at Godswill international school before heading to Victory Comprehensive College, and then Paradise international school to conclude her secondary education.

For her tertiary education, she attended the prestigious University of Port Harcourt where she bagged a degree in Linguistics and communication studies.

Career

Prior to deviating completely into music, Mercy Chinwo started out as an actress.

She entered the spotlight in 2012 after taking winning Season 2 of the renowned acting competition Nigerian Idol. 

Then, in 2013, she was cast in her first movie, “House of Gold,” directed by Yvonne Nelson and starring other celebrities like Yvonne Nelson, Majid Michel, and Omawumi.

Mercy Chinwo then drifted into a music career by lending her voice to projects by notable Nigerian gospel music musicians, including Sammie Okposo, Joe Praize, Buchi, Chris Morgan, and Preye

In 2017, she was signed by EeZee Concepts, a Christian music label owned by Ezekiel ThankGod.

Marriage

Mercy and Pastor Blessed

Mercy is married to Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa of The WaterBrook Church. 

Pastor Blessed is a Microsoft Certified IT Professional with Stanford University in London and has an Advanced Project Management Certificate. He also works with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.

The duo got married on August 13, 2022, just one day after their traditional wedding ceremony, in an extravagant church ceremony in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Numerous celebrities including Obi Cubana, Banky W, Adesua Etomi, Waje, Chigurl, Joe Praize, Pita Sings, and many more graced the outstanding event.,

Achievements

Through the course of her career, Mercy has been the recipient of numerous awards and nominations.

In 2020, she was nominated for an award at Maranatha Awards USA Awards

2015 saw the debut of Mercy Chinwo’s first single, “Testimony,” and 2016 saw the release of her second single, “Igwe.” 

In 2018, she released her debut album, “The cross my Gaze.” 

Many soul-stirring gospel songs from “the cross my gaze” are still popular among Nigerian Christians. 

International musicians have also worked with Mercy Chinwo. Her most well-known song, “Excess love,” was remixed by JJ Hairston, Youthful Praise, and The Gratitude.

With the help of her song “Excess love”, Mercy Chinwo has gained widespread popularity and a position among the top female vocalists in the Nigerian gospel music scene. 

With her hit “Akamdinelu,” Mercy Chinwo made yet another significant impact on the gospel music industry. Currently, the song has received more than a million streams on several music streaming services.

In 2020, she released “Satisfied,” her second album, a 13-track collection. Hit songs from the album included “Baby Song” and “Na you dey reign.”

Controversy

Mercy has been cautioned by social media users on several occasions about her mode of dressing.

In 2020, Victor Edet, an evangelist took to his Facebook page to call out the artiste for her fashion style.

In another post by the evangelist, he also criticized Mercy for flaunting her wedding ring on social media, saying the bible forbids the use of rings and jewellery.
