Who is Johnny Depp? Biography, Age, Wives, Divorce, Children, Source of Wealth and More

Johnny Depp is an American actor, producer and musician who gained more limelight recently due to a lawsuit between him and his estranged wife, Amber Heard.
Many movie lovers would remember his face from the Pirate of the Caribbean.
Who is Johnny Depp?
Johnny Depp’s full name is John Christopher Depp II. He was born on June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky.
He is the youngest of four children of his parent. His mother is a waitress named Betty Sue Palmer (née Wells) while his father is an engineer named John Christopher Depp.
Johnny’s family moved frequently during his childhood, eventually settling in Miramar, Florida, in 1970.
His parents divorced in 1978 when he was 15, and his mother later married Robert Palmer, whom Depp has called “an inspiration”.
Education and Early Career
Depp received a guitar gift from his mother when he was 12 years old. He dropped out of Miramar High School at 16 in 1979 to become a rock musician.
He attempted to go back to school two weeks later, but the principal told him to follow his dream of being a musician.
In 1980, Depp began playing in a band called The Kids.
After modest local success in Florida, the band moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of a record deal, changing its name to Six Gun Method.

In addition to the band, Depp worked a variety of odd jobs, such as telemarketing.
The Kids split up before signing a record deal in 1984, and Depp began collaborating with the band Rock City Angels.
He co-wrote their song “Mary”, which appeared on their debut Geffen Records album Young Man’s Blues.
He featured on songs by Oasis, Shane MacGowan, Iggy Pop, Vanessa Paradis, Aerosmith, Marilyn Manson, and The New Basement Tapes, among others.
Marriages, Wives and Children
Lori Anne Allison
In December 1983, Depp married makeup artist Lori Anne Allison, the sister of his band’s bassist and singer. Depp and Allison divorced in 1985.
Winona Ryder
After the divorce, he got engaged to actresses Jennifer Grey and Sherilyn Fenn before proposing in 1990 to his Edward Scissorhands co-star Winona Ryder, for whom he tattooed “Winona Forever” on his right arm which he later changed to “Wino Forever”.
Kate Moss
Between 1994 and 1998, he was in a relationship with English model Kate Moss.
Vanessa Paradis
Following his breakup with Moss, Depp began a relationship with French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis, whom he met while filming The Ninth Gate in France in 1998.
Children
Depp and Paradis have two children, a daughter Lily-Rose Melody Depp (born 1999) and a son, Jack (born 2002).
Depp stated that having children has given him a “real foundation, a real strong place to stand in life, in work, in everything …You cannot plan the kind of deep love that results in children. Fatherhood was not a conscious decision. It was part of the wonderful ride I was on. It was destiny. All the math finally worked”.
Depp and Paradis disclosed to the public that they had separated in June 2012.
Amber Heard
Following the end of his relationship with Vanessa Paradis, the same year, Depp began dating actress Amber Heard, with whom he had co-starred in The Rum Diary (2011).
Depp and Heard were married in a civil ceremony in February 2015.
Wedding Drama
The couple comes under fire for sneaking their dogs, Pistol and Boo, into Australia.
The pair later release a sombre apology video.
Heard is eventually charged with two counts of illegally importing Pistol and Boo into Australia and one count of producing a false document.
Divorce suit
Heard filed for divorce in May 2016 and obtained a temporary restraining order against Depp, alleging in her court declaration that he had been verbally and physically abusive throughout their relationship, usually while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“During the entirety of our relationship, Johnny Depp has been verbally and physically abusive to me,” Heard says in a sworn declaration.
“He has a short fuse. He is often paranoid and his temper is exceptionally scary for me.” She writes she was living “in fear that Johnny will return to [our house] unannounced to terrorize me, physically and emotionally.”
A judge rejects Heard’s request that Depp attends a year’s worth of anger management classes and refused to extend the protective order to the couple’s dogs.
Police do not press charges against Depp, who also denied attacking the actress.
Depp denied these claims and alleged that she was “attempting to secure a premature financial resolution”.
A settlement was reached in August 2016, and the divorce was finalized in January 2017.
Heard dismissed the restraining order, and they issued a joint statement saying that their “relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm”.
Depp paid Heard a divorce settlement of $7 million, which she pledged to donate to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA).
The couple’s divorce was later finalized in 2017.
Heard’s Op-ed for The Washington Post
Heard in 2018 in op-ed published on The Washington Post at the heart of the defamation lawsuit writes: “I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.”
Heard’s article mentions her experience with abuse from her childhood to adulthood. It does not include Depp’s name.
At the crux of the article, Heard asks for support for women experiencing domestic violence.
“We have an opening now to bolster and build institutions protective of women. For starters, Congress can reauthorize and strengthen the Violence Against Women Act,” she writes.
Depp sues Heard
In 2019, Depp sued Heard for defamation, claiming the article published on The Washington Post was a ruse for Heard to garner positive press for herself.
Depp also claims she is not the victim of domestic violence but instead the perpetrator.
Depp seeks $50 million in damages.
Depp won the lawsuit against Heard
Johnny Depp won his defamation trial against Amber Heard on June 1, 2022 while Amber Heard lost most of her countersuit.
In a stunning finish to the trial which became a media sensation, Depp was awarded $15 million in damages, including $5 million in punitive damages, which the judge capped to $350,000, the legal limit in Virginia.
In total, Depp is entitled to $10.35 million. The jury awarded Heard $2 million, with the finding that former Depp attorney, Adam Waldman, had defamed her.
Depp slams Heard in new album with Jeff Beck
Johnny Depp used his album with Jeff Beck as platform to make reference to winning his defamation trial against estranged wife, Amber Heard, as well as taking shots at the actress.
Depp, 59, and Beck, 76, had a string of tour dates throughout the UK in June.
“I think you’ve said enough for one motherf***ing night,” Depp sings on the record he made with legendary British guitarist Beck, which is set to be released on Friday, according to a report from the Sunday Times.
“You’re sitting there like a dog with a seven-year itch,” he sings on one track, called “Sad motherf***in’ parade.”
“If I had a dime, it wouldn’t reach your hand,” he belts out in another line of the song.
Drugs and Alcohol problem
Depp has struggled with alcoholism and addiction for much of his life.
He has stated that he began using drugs by taking his mother’s “nerve pills” at the age of 11, was smoking at age 12 and by the age of 14 had used “every kind of drugs there were”.
In a 1997 interview, Depp acknowledged past abuse of alcohol during the filming of What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? (1993).
In a 2008 interview, Depp stated that he had “poisoned” himself with alcohol “for years”.
In 2013, Depp declared that he had stopped drinking alcohol, adding that he “pretty much got everything [he] could get out of it”; Depp also said, “I investigated wine and spirits thoroughly, and they certainly investigated me as well, and we found out that we got along beautifully, but maybe too well”.
