Festus Keyamo Biography
Festus Egwarewa Adeniyi Keyamo popularly known as Festus Keyamo is a Nigerian lawyer, a human rights activist, a critic columnist and a SAN (Senior Advocate of Nigeria).
Where is Festus Keyamo from?
Keyamo hails from Effurun, Delta state of Nigeria. He was born on the 21st of January 1970, he is 53 years old. He was born to the family of Pa Matthias Keyamo and Mrs Caroline Abeni Keyamo.
Festus Keyamo Education
Keyamo had his Elementary education at the Model Primary School. He completed his post-elementary school studies at Government College, Ughelii still in Delta state.
Festus gained admission into Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State for his tertiary education where he obtained a law degree in 1992. He was later called to the Nigerian Bar in December 20, 1993.
He first started his law career at the Gani Fawehinmi’s chambers but later left to establish his own chambers called the Festus Keyamo Chambers.
Festus Keyamo’s political career
Keyamo was nominated as minister amongst others in the second presidential administration of Muhammadi Buhari.
He was later screened by the senate after the nomination. He was then appointed the Nigerian Mister of State for the Niger Delta on 21st August 2019 after the senate screened his nomination.
After a while, he was redeployed to the Ministry of Labor and Employment just a month after this appointment which happened on the 21st of August 2019.
He however received some backlash for accepting the ministerial position.
Festus Keyamo is a card-carrying member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as of 2022.
Keyamo’s wife and children
Festus Keyamo got married to his estranged wife, Mrs Isioma Irene Keyamo, on May 15, 2004, in Benin City.
The marriage only lasted for six years and it produced two children:
- Nicole Keyamo
- Festus Keyamo Jnr.
Festus Keyamo Recognition
In July 2017, Keyamo was named by the legal practitioners’ privileges committee as one of the outstanding Nigerian lawyers to be awarded the rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
In 2017, he was awarded the Global Human Rights award in Washington by the United States Global Leadership council.
