1. Electoral Act: More commissioners resign as Buhari’s ministers refuse [Punch Newspaper]
At least, 13 commissioners have resigned their appointments in Sokoto State ahead of the primary elections in accordance with the Electoral Act, bringing the total number of commissioners that had resigned in order to contest elections to over 60 across the 36 states.
A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, Muhammad Bello, on Wednesday said Governor Aminu Tambuwal had accepted their resignations accordingly.
2. Electoral Act: Ngige, Nwajiuba opt not to resign [Vanguard Newspaper]
Two ministers, yesterday, downplayed calls on political appointees to resign to enable them take part in primaries of political parties, next month, saying the calls were unconstitutional, in spite of the provision of Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act 2022) as amended.
3. Defection Crisis: Adamawa Assembly declares lawmaker’s seat vacant for dumping PDP [NewsWireNGR]
The Adamawa State House of Assembly has declared the seat of Mr Joseph Ayuba (PDP-Michika) vacant for defecting from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).
This followed the adoption of a motion by the deputy speaker Mr Pwamwakeno Mackondo, at plenary on Wednesday in Yola.
Presenting the motion, Mackondo said that the lawmaker must be made to forfeit his seat for defecting from the party on which platform he was elected without cogent reasons. Read more.
4. APC chieftain assassinated at his residence in Bayelsa [NewsWireNGR]
A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has been assassinated.
The deceased, known as Sunday Frank-Oputu, was reportedly shot around 11:50 pm at his residence at Baybridge Road in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
Frank-Oputu is an indigene of the Igbomotoru community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ben Nebolisa Okolo, assured residents that the police are ensuring that the culprits are swiftly arrested. Read more.

The Senate has prohibited the payment of ransoms to kidnappers in its bid to complement the Federal Government’s effort to tackle the disturbing spate of insecurity in the country.
Payment of kidnap ransom was criminalised by the lawmakers during Wednesday’s plenary in Abuja as they passed the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2013 (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
The prohibition by the lawmakers followed the receipt and consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters on the bill. Read more.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Kana, has said that the Federal Government had concluded plans to create a brand new Ministry of Defence, with a view to repositioning the sector.
