There are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress may disqualify political appointees contesting the 2023 elections who have not resigned their appointments. The PUNCH, on Monday, gathered that the party would not risk being disqualified by fielding political appointees in contravention of Section 84 (12).
Political appointees who have signified their interest to contest the presidency on the platform of the APC included the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and his counterpart for Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, who joined the race on Tuesday last week.

Southern and Middle Belt leaders yesterday converged on Abuja, the nation’s capital, and again restated their call for power-shift to the South-East, saying since all the other zones have taken their turns at the presidency, it would be unjust to deny Ndigbo a seat at the table.
This is even as one of them who is the leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, warned former President Goodluck Jonathan, and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, that they were being deceived by President Muhammadu Buhari in their quests to become president in 2023.

The Catholic Church in Ebonyi is seeking justice for Reverend Father Timothy Ngwuta incarcerated over alleged involvement in the Effium-Ezza Effium fratricidal conflict in the state.
The Church, in a statement signed by Rev. Fr Mathew Uzoma, Chancellor, Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, said that Ngwuta vehemently denied all charges brought against him before the bishop of the diocese and implored those responsible for the priest’s incarceration to “listen to the voice of right conscience”. The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) on Monday extended their two-weeks warning strike by one month.
The unions under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) stated this in a circular, addressed to the branch chairmen and jointly signed by Mr Peter Adeyemi, General Secretary, NASU and Mr Monhammed Ibrahim, National President, SSANU. Read more.

The Campaign for Constitutionalism and Human Rights (CCHR) says it is unconstitutional for political parties in Nigeria to charge aspirants for nomination and expression of interest forms.
The Publicity Secretary of CCHR, Mr Adebukola Yussuf, said this in a statement on Monday in Lagos.
