1. Constitution amendment: Outrage as National Assembly considers life pension for presiding officers [Punch Newspaper]
A fresh move by the National Assembly to grant life pension for its presiding officers, including the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives as well as their deputies has sparked outrage among civil society groups and some senior advocates.
If the proposal is passed by the legislature, the current Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila; and their deputies will benefit.
2. APC Zoning Presidency to South Puts PDP in Quandary [ThisDay Newspaper]
The decision, Tuesday, by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone its presidential ticket to the Southern part of the country, might have put the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a quandary for contemplating to leave its own ticket open and by implication, put the north at advantage.
But the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, yesterday, reinforced the PDP position, when he declared that the zoning of the presidency to the South by the ruling party posed no threat to the main opposition party ahead of the 2023 general election.
3. Zamfara: Court orders forfeiture of Yari’s properties in US, Abuja, Kaduna [NewsWireNGR]
A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, gave an interim order forfeiting 10 properties of former Governor of Zamfara, Abdulaziz Yari, to the Federal Government.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the order following an ex-parte motion moved by counsel for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Osuobeni Akponimisingha. Read more.

The Federal Government says that the meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will be reconvened on February 28, with the hope of calling off the one month warning strike embarked upon by the union.

5. Four filling stations suspended in Anambra over adulterated products [NewsWireNGR]
The Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NMDPRA) has suspended operations of four filling stations in Anambra over suspected delivery of bad Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at the outlets.
Mr Victor Orjiakor, Operations Controller of NMDPRA in Anambra said this in Awka on Wednesday.
Price of PMS has increased between N162 and N165 per litre to between N190 and N200 per litre in Awka and some parts of the state. Read more.
6. Crisis looms in Anambra APC as court nullifies congresses [NewsWireNGR]
The Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka on Wednesday declared as a nullity, wards, local government, and state congresses held by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in January 2022 in Anambra.
The party had conducted congresses which produced Mr Basil Ejidike as the state chairman.
But Justice Ike Ogu of High Court four Awka, who delivered a judgment on the matter, ruled that the exercise contravened initial Interlocutory injunction earlier issued by his court. Read more.
